The olive tree is an ever green tree that grows in the Holy Land, it has numerous branches and can survive up to 2000 years. According to the Bible, it was an olive branch that Noah’s dove brought back to the ark.


Jesus prayed in Gethsemane near near an olive tree that still exists today. The manufacturing of religious and artistic artifacts from the wood of this popular tree has long been a tradition among the natives of Bethlehem. Olive wood figures are only made out of the male Olive trees. The female trees are responsible for baring the fruits while the male trees are unable to do so.


The wood is dried for a long period of time, ranging from months to years before the wood is used to carve figures.
